Nothing Hidden

The tough ones, too.

Every business gets bad reviews. The difference is, we wear ours on our sleeve. We learn from them, improve because of them, and we have nothing to hide. Here are the ones that stung, and what they changed about how we work.

While our patio looks nice, the communication during this project has been awful. It has taken 4X as long as they said it would, all our grass died (they broke our sprinkler system and we couldn't water anyway during the project), and we are looking at thousands of dollars in additional costs. So, so disappointed with this company.
Our Response

We own most of this. Communication should have been better, full stop. The project ran long because of a stretch of 100°+ weather that forced shorter crew days for safety. Turf damage around the work area is part of any project this size, something we now disclose upfront and offer to resod. One clarification: the valve box we worked around wasn't broken by our crew, it was already non-functioning when we arrived and our guys repaired it. A one-star stung, a three or four would have been fair. We've used this one to sharpen how we communicate on every build since.

Called to get someone to come look at what I have for a project to get a bid. Just asked me questions, didn't seem interested in coming to look at it in person, and told me 22k. Very poor business practices, how do you give a bid without even seeing the project. I worked in construction for years. Don't waste your time calling.
Our Response

Fair critique on the process. Our goal is to respect people's time and give quick, accurate ballpark numbers up front. For common projects like patios, retaining walls, or pergolas, we can usually land in the right ballpark over the phone with a few details. If the number fits the budget, we schedule the site visit and put together a detailed written proposal. Most folks appreciate that flow because it saves them from waiting weeks just to find out a project is outside their range, but we understand it wasn't what this homeowner was looking for. The offer to come out and take a proper look is still open.

Our patio turned out great, but we had just built a large screened porch, and they were building an attached patio. Wished they had at least told us about the amount of dust they would be creating. I would have moved furniture. They did hang a partial piece of plastic, but it was very ineffective. We had a lot of clean up on our porch, furniture, and the screens when they finished. But they did do a nice job on the patio.
What We Learned

Should have told them. Construction dust is part of everyday life for our crews, which means we occasionally forget it isn't for the homeowner. Fair call-out. We've since added a proactive dust-and-disruption note to the pre-build email every client gets, so there's time to move furniture or cover surfaces before we start. Glad the patio itself turned out great.
